Woodworking Projects

Back to homepage

Over the past year I have begun to take up some wooodworking projects. I have thoroughly enjoyed these and wanted to share a little of what I have done. I have no formal training, just some basic skills I have picked up along the way.

Second, smaller audio shelf

Main Audio Shelf

This is the first shelf unit I built for my main audio system. My father and I worked on it together, he has been working with wood for longer than I have been alive, so it was wonderful to have his guidance. It is made from solid Cherry that we obtained from an Amish lumber yard east of Eau Claire, WI. It is a very solid piece, finished with a conditioner of laquer and mineral spirits first, then a few coats of Watco oil.

Second, smaller audio shelf

Bedroom Audio Shelf

This is the second, smaller stereo shelf unit for my bedroom system. I built this one on my own from what I learned on the first project. I again used solid Cherry from the same Amish lumber yard, but this time I started with lumber of a smaller dimension. As a result it is significantly lighter than the first shelf, but it is still a sturdy piece. I finished it again with a conditioner pre-treat and a few coats of Watco oil.
